Autechre - Quaristice (****)

First album in 3 years from the pioneering avant-electro titans Autechre is a hyper-kinetic 20 track opus which unapologetically shifts between lonely ambient passages, chopped & screwed techno and fractured, disorienting house beats. This a highly detailed, mind-numbing 75 minutes of "difficult" music ("difficult" only in the sense that undivided attention is required for full enjoyment), just like every Autechre album released in the last 15 years, yet at the same time Quaristice feels oddly listenable while still managing to stay unpredictable and downright thrilling for the entirety of it's lengthy runtime.
